New Energy Economy – UK Smart Energy Journey
    1 November 2011
    Hogan Lovells International, Atlantic House
    Holborn Viaduct, London EC1A 2FG

In the rush to deliver the UK's Smart Energy Revolution, there has been so much emphasis on Smart technologies: Smart meters, Smart grids, Smart appliances and Smart homes. Has the consumer been forgotten?

The technology will only deliver with the consumer firmly on board; the secure, low carbon and sustainable energy that we all need will require a holistic approach with the consumer at the centre, and this is encompassed in two words: Smart Energy.

Following on from last February's successful two day event, "Delivering our shared energy future", join us on 1 November for this seminar, which brings together all aspects of the smart spectrum and addresses the key consumer and policy issues affecting the progress of the smart energy transformation.

Funding Renewables Conference
    16 June 2011
Allen & Overy, One Bishops Square, London E1 6AD

The Government's Energy Market Reform is as big a change to the energy market as was privatisation and then, later, the roll-out of the New Electricity Trading Arrangements. The new changes are designed to achieve the growth of renewable energy from today's 7% to 30% in 2020, less than ten years.

This massively ambitious programme with its projected cost of £200 billions is to be achieved by different instruments which will squeeze out gas and coal unless they contribute to the green economy and the extended use of subsidies to support renewables and low-carbon generation.

This conference provided a platform for funders and project 'owners' to talk to each other and for both to talk to Government about these issues.

Government Energy Policy – How to Afford It
    28 January 2011
    Oxford and Cambridge Club, London
    Sponsored by Siemens Project Ventures

The Green Investment Bank – initiated by the previous government and developed further by the current government - is to fund cleantech projects using £1bn provided by government and an equal amount invested by the private sector. That intent sits uneasily with the recent wave of energy-policy initiatives and it may be asked whether there are better means of achieving the desired outcome – depending, of course, on the outcome it is intended to achieve.
